Select Canoe Wild Rice products are certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program. Our organic wild rice is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or GMOs — and processed separately at our Aitkin, MN mill to maintain certification integrity.
Non-GMO By Law
Wild rice is protected from genetic engineering under Minnesota state law. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture holds permit authority over any GMO wild rice release (MN Chapter 18), making every grain we mill non-GMO by law and by nature.

Four generations of the Ratuski family
Our story began in the early 1900s, when Peter Ratuski started buying wild rice from the Indigenous harvesters of Red Lake, Ontario — six cents a pound, or traded for groceries from his small store.
In the 1980s, the family purchased the Mille Lacs Wild Rice Corporation in Aitkin, Minnesota and began processing wild rice grown in-state. Today, Chris Ratuski and his son Joe operate a state-of-the-art roasting mill unrivaled in the industry.
