Here in Minnesota, we cherish our native superfood so much that we even name celebrations in honor of wild rice! You can find several wild rice festivals coming up this summer and fall—read on below and join in the fun!
The World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival
Located in the small town of Deer River, the 69th annual World’s Largest Wild Rice Festival will bring together more than 7,500 people to celebrate. Head out to Deer River, about 3.5 hours north of the Twin Cities, on July 7th through the 9th for a full schedule of fun events. A truly entertaining festival, there is a huge fireworks display, Midway rides, lots of live music, a parade, a 5k run, bingo, and a medallion hunt.
Wild Rice Days
Another community coming together to celebrate wild rice harvest, the town of McGregor hosts Wild Rice Days September 1st through the 4th. This festival features a meat raffle, live music, a parade, and lots of family friendly games. Follow their Facebook page for more updates and information as the event gets closer.
Harriet Alexander Nature Center Wild Rice Festival
On Saturday, September 16th join the fun in Roseville, MN for its Wild Rice Festival. This festival is a celebration of wild rice, Native American culture, and Minnesota’s harvest season. There will be many foods featuring wild rice available and entertainment activities planned including poetry, storytelling, and music.
Take a Walk on the Wild Side
On October 21st, Park Rapids hosts their event, Take a Walk on the Wild Side. This festival has many unique attractions including live fire dancers, regional artwork on display, and a wild rice hotdish contest.
